Dress code: comfy sweats, slippers, even a housecoat is fine. You’ll feel right at home! Make yourselves comfortable and get reacquainted with the cult films you used to watch (over and over) on VHS tapes rented from your local video store or recorded off the TV (that’s what Marcin Pieńkowski, the festival’s programming director, used to do).
Or maybe you saw your parents or older siblings rewatching these and couldn’t figure out what was the appeal. If you’re the former, join us on a sentimental journey; if you’re the latter, come see some absolute classics. Together with Samsung, our festival partner, we’ve outfitted a special screening room that will take you back in time to the mid-90s. Cult classics meet cutting-edge technology: eight timeless films that can only be called all-time hits will be playing on a Samsung AI TV between July 19-27 in Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe.
Admission is free with a pass. Pick up your pass at the festival ticket booth (from July 17th at Kino Nowe Horyzonty and from July 19th at Dolnośląskie Centrum Filmowe) during working hours. No more than two passes per person. Limited numbers available.
Harold Ramis’ spectacular comedy resembles the best works of Frank Capra in spirit. Starring Bill Murray as the grumpy weatherman forced to search for the meaning of life (and love) in rural Punxsutawney as he keeps reliving the insufferable Groundhog Day.
The perennial “adventure flick” of American cinema, featuring Hollywood child stars Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, and Corey Feldman. Come with us to find One-Eyed Willy’s treasure!
Immortalized in a Polish novelty song, this was the biggest blockbuster of Communist Poland as well as the best film starring Bruce Lee. The karate master died the year this film was released, becoming a legend and a pop culture icon.
A cult portrayal of Gen X featuring the spectacular trio of Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, and Ben Stiller (on both sides of the lens!) and a phenomenal soundtrack. MTV-era cinema.
Kevin Smith’s ultra-low budget debut: Dante, Randal, Jay and Silent Bob, and their immortal monologues, hilarious and philosophical at once. Released 30 years ago, this film can still drive you to tears of laughter.
The 80s in a nutshell! A wonderful dose of ribald comedy and horror featuring gremlins wreaking havoc on a town in this masterpiece by Joe Dante. Bon appétit!
All right, all right, all right… Richard Linklater’s epic party set in the melancholy scenery of the 70s. Featuring Matthew McConaughey, Ben Affleck, Milla Jovovich, and other big names before they made it big.
Lola (Franka Potente with bright red hair) and three versions of her life. Tom Tykwer’s tour de force, or what could’ve been if Kieślowski had found inspiration in pop culture while making Blind Chance.
