12/06/24
Harmony Korine's "Aggro Dr1ft" at the 24th mBank New Horizons IFF Immersive cinema: Two award-winning VR projects at the New Horizons

Following yesterday's reveal of the diverse and rich Visual Front program, we are thrilled to shout “Over the top!” for the Art Scene of the 24th mBank New Horizons IFF (July 18-28). Our journey begins with the KROKI / STEPS exhibition, which aligns with the walking theme that sets the rhythm of this year's festival.

Together with BWA Wroclaw – co-organizer of the Art Scene, Krupa Art Foundation, and Entropia Gallery, we will map out the STEPS route. Also on the festival map is Norman Leto’s Proof of Concept exhibition, in collaboration with 66P Subjective Institution of Culture. Additionally, the Ambient Room, prepared by IP Group for the eighth time, will be a permanent highlight. Warm up and get your pedometers ready: we have a great trip aheaad. Admission to all events is free.

KROKI / STEPS | BWA Studio Wrocław, Entropia Gallery, and Krupa Gallery

An artistic project about walking that explores its practice, philosophy, culture, politics, and art. Three galleries – BWA Studio Wroclaw, Entropia Gallery, and Krupa Gallery – will showcase works reflecting on or documenting walking. In the city space, you can engage in artistic walking scenarios on your own. The collective exhibition KROKI / STEPS delves into the conceptual and performative foundations of contemporary thinking about walking in art. From the motif of pilgrimage to politically charged steps, and from virtual walks to journeys towards nature, the exhibition includes film documentation of performances, installations, objects, photographs, and even a computer game. The works are divided between three galleries located in close (walking) proximity to each other.

Proof of Concept | 66P Subjective Institution of Culture

Proof of Concept is a project that draws on the figure of a studio visit. Through this exhibition, we visit Norman Leto (author of the marvelous film Photon) in his atelier, or rather, in the two ateliers that he uses for his work. In one, he is developing his most recent cinematic venture, a film under the working title Pilot 9_11, through which Leto revisits the attack on the World Trade Center. The artist provides us with an insight into his project-in-process, showing related film sketches, tests of technical solutions, and sequence fragments. In the second atelier, Norman works on his easel paintings, experimenting with artificial intelligence generators to create their iconography. None of these paintings refer to Pilot 9_11, yet all were created in parallel with the film project. While engaging in film projects, Norman has not severed his ties with the field of visual arts and has continued his painting practice. The exhibition concludes with the video Sailor Update, One Decade Later [Vlog], where the artist returns to the character of the protagonist of his mystified literary autobiography and debut film Sailor.

Curator: Stach Szabłowski

Exhibition duration: July 20 – September 14, 2024

Opening (vernissage): July 20, 2024, 19:00

Author-curator tours: July 24, 2024, 18:00; July 25, 2024, 18:00

Ambient Room #8: counter / intuitive | IP Studio

For the eighth time, the IP Studio space, run by the IP Group art collective, transforms into an Ambient Room environment during the festival. Using digital and analog tools, IP Group creates an immersive experience. Through a combination of light, sound and visual interactions, it will be possible to observe how these elements affect our senses, trigger synesthetic processes, and transform our perception of reality. In this year's installment of the project, the IP Group is looking at what time, space, and motion are and how they work. We will examine situations where intuition fails, reaching for surprising references and stopping at moments that defy logic. Expect an exploration of the non-obvious.

Concept and implementation: IP Group (Dominika Kluszczyk, Jakub Lech, Bogumił Misala)

Duration: Premiere – July 19, 2024, 19:00-22:00; subsequent shows – July 20-21, 2024, 13:00-21:00; July 23-27, 2024, 13:00-21:00. Closed on July 22, 2024

Project co-financed by the Municipality of Wroclaw | wroclaw.pl
