New Horizons audiences should be very familiar with John Smith by now, having had opportunities to see his Dirty Pictures and Dad’s Stick at previous editions of the festival. And just like in his last film, Dark Light, the subject matter deals with memories recalled by the director that are accompanied by minimalistic images. But this is where the similarities with his previous work come to an end, however, since, this time, instead of personal stories, Smith deals with general problems concerning communist countries that can no longer found on a map of the world.
Born in 1952 in London, where he continues to live and work today. Studied film at the Royal College of Art. Since 1972, has made more than 50 films, installations, and video projects that have been screened throughout the world, garnering awards at numerous prestigious events.
