In certain respects, Tao Zhou’s documentary is a recording of the reasons for the anti-government protests in Bangkok. However, Blue and Red is not a typical film report about dramatic events. The director’s attention is not at all occupied with the social uprising or its political basis. They only provide a point of departure. The recording of reality is not the goal but rather the means through which the director gives expression to her artistic sensibility, which is most visible not so much in her choice of which people, objects, or situations to film but rather in the poetic way in which she presents them.
