A Coach’s Daughter

It's a blistering hot summer. Maciej Kornet (Jacek Braciak) is traveling around Poland with his 17-year-old daughter, Wiktoria (Karolina Bruchnicka). It's been only the two of them for years, always together. The route they take is determined by where tennis competitions are being held. She is the apple of his eye, while he's her entire whole world. At least until they're joined by Igor (Bartłomiej Kowalski), a promising player who starts training with Maciej. As a result, Wiktoria opens herself up to new experiences: her first cigarette, her first glass of alcohol, her first love. The three of them embark on a long journey in a beat-up van during which they all want to achieve their own goals. InA Coach's Daughter, "the most interesting thing for me is the tough love between the gentle and optimistic daughter and her father, who acts like it's him against the world," says the director. "My protagonist is a particular type of rebel: a naive, anachronistic freak. But I love him dearly nonetheless." A Coach's Daughter is a story filled with subtle humor about growing up and searching for one's own identity. Maciej dreams that his daughter will become a Polish tennis champion one day, but she does everything she can to get away from tennis. With A Coach's Daughter, directorŁukasz Grzegorzek proves himself yet again, and the energetic duo of Jacek Braciak and Karolina Bruchnicka are the perfect driving force for the film.
