Amirali Ghasemi Lecture: Iran. Making Space for New Media Atomic Heart

A firm but empathetic nurse has to look after a young woman who ended up in a psychiatric hospital in a state resembling a stupor. Having finally broken her silence, the patient says that her cruel husband is trying to make her commit suicide so that he can take over her father's estate. Her mind is healthy after all-pretending to have psychological problems is a way for her to stay away from her domestic hell. The nurse tries to help her to an extent that goes beyond her professional responsibilities. In time, the situation becomes more and more complicated. Shot in black-and-white, the action takes place in a snow-bound city hit with recurring power failures. Asphyxia is a thriller and gothic melodrama in one. The spirt of Alfred Hitchcock inhabits the entire picture.
