The Day Has Conquered the Night
The film’s content might be summarized in one promoting sentence: eight portraits, eight dreams, eight escapes, but this fails to cover all the senses of this French documentary. Individual stories are hidden within the characters speaking (or uttering words) to the camera. They confirm the common truth that people and their stories are the most fascinating stuff of cinema.
Jean-Gabriel Périot
Jean-Gabriel Périot was born in 1974 in France. His works include between ten and twenty films made by means of video or film technique. Périot has a distinctive style in using archival material and most of his films combine documentaries, animation and experimental elements to deal with such issues as history and violence. His latest films, Dies Irae, Even If She Had Been a Criminal… and 20 000 Phantoms screened at numerous international festivals and received a considerable number of awards.
