The 12th edition of A Sunday in the Country – a collaboration of the mBank New Horizons IFF and the European Film Academy, will gather a dozen young film critics from Europe for a retreat/workshop for 3 days (July 21-24) in a remote country house near Wrocław (Willa Słoneczna on Bystrzyckie Lake at Zagórze Śląskie).
The participants get to know each other, watch movies and discuss them, meet filmmakers and talk about their profession and challenges of the post-pandemic world. They exchange their professional experiences and build international relations.
For 2023 edition of the event 8 participants coming from 7 countries have been selected: Anton Vanha-Majamaa (Finland), Cas Hoekstra (the Netherlands), Ramona Aristide (Romania), Silvia Mariscal (Spain), Chiara Zuccari (Italy) and Oleksandra Kalinichenko (Ukraine). The group also includes two journalists awarded in the Krzysztof Mętrak Competition for young film critics: Maciej Satora and Maria Dutkiewicz from Poland. The participants will work and network under the guidance of the established critic from Greece, Manolis Kranakis, as well as coordinators of the New Horizons Association and EFA. They will meet established filmmakers-guests of the mBank New Horizons FF, including Lila Avilés, Raul Domingues, Olga Chajdas and Ane Hjort Guttu and discuss the role of a film critic in their careers.
A Sunday in the Country is organized with the support of the Polish Film Institute, the Embassy of the Netherlands, Italian Cultural Institute in Cracow, Finnish Film Foundation, Romanian Institute of Culture, Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales in Madrid and in collaboration with Krzysztof Mętrak Award for young critics.
