Thanks to the Cannes-awarded Dancing in the Corner, Jan Bujnowski emerges as a remarkable representative of Polish cinema. Through the prism of an individual story about the hopes and disappointments of transformation, Bujnowski performs impressive and effective directorial maneuvers, enchanting audiences with the belief that even the most oppressive Central European housing estate can become a scene of wonders rivaling those in Naples, Italy. Ingeniously flirting with the coming-of-age convention, the director also pays tribute to all dreamers who—contrary to the predictions of bookmakers—hope that imagination will always triumph over disappointing reality.
Born in 1994 in Białystok, Jan Bujnowski is a graduate of directing at the Łódź Film School. He previously studied journalism and art history at the University of Warsaw. His previous short film, The Devil, received a special jury award at the prestigious Clermont-Ferrand Film Festival.
