The Silent Touch

It took ten years before this devilish screenplay could be shot. The story about the elusiveness of genius, about metaphysics of inspiration and about the price of art and in a broader sense - about coexistence or even bizarre collaboration of good and evil, inspired by the earthly sacrum and profanum. Keshdi, a famous Scandinavian composer finds his second youth (not only in his work) after several years of artistic silence. Things change for him due to Stefan, a music theorist from Cracow, who comes to Keshdi with some sounds he has heard in his dream. Stefan has skills in bio-energy therapy and dowsing, he is young and he can share his strength with Keshdi. He's a half-angel, a medium between the earth and the world of metaphysics. And yet he is another Zanussi-style character, who touches on excellence, but can't experience it himself.

The expressive music composed by Wojciech Kilar is a very important element in the film. The Silent Touch was shot in Stawiska, in the house that belonged to Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz and the cast includes real stars. What is interesting, the coarse von Sydow and unearthly Bluteau, like Robert Powell in the Imperative, were engaged by Zanussi after having performed the role of Jesus in other films.
