First, there was a 45-minute film called From Inside from 2013 that was screened for the public just once, in Sanok, the Beksińskis’ hometown. Cezary Grzesiuk and Tomasz Szwan made it from dozens of hours of recordings made by artist Zdzisław Beksiński. After the premiere, it turned out that there was over 300 hours more of video recordings of the famous family. They had to start over. So much intriguing material was found that it would have been enough for a multi-episode series (which was actually planned). In the end, a full-length film was made instead. We get a firsthand look at the private life of the Beksińskis. All three of them did some of the filming, and they did it intuitively and without compromise, including in moments that should rather have been kept private, such as the death of the doyenne of the family, the stormy and, at times, desperate negotiations with art dealer Piotr Dmochowski, and family disagreements. In their most difficult moments, the Beksińskis were not troubled by the camera, which enables us to penetrate deeper into their extraordinary everyday lives.
