Touch Me Not Zama

The war is coming to an end; a group of children managed to survive internment in the recently liberated Gross-Rosen concentration camp. Still wearing camp stripes, they are sent to an abandoned mansion, where a woman named Jadwiga (Danuta Stenka) is to take care of them for the time being. Left traumatized by the war, the group includes Hanka, a young woman on the verge of adulthood; the taciturn Władek; and the energetic Hanys; as well as some very young children. Learning to trust one another, they try to find the way back to their lost childhood. One day, however, the mansion is attacked by former camp guards—hungry dogs wandering the surrounding forests. Once again, the kids have to fight for survival: their competitive instinct kicks in, as does their solidarity reflex. An award winner in Gdynia and Tallinn, the latest film by Adrian Panek, the director of the acclaimed Daas, combines historical and psychological drama and mixes fairy-tale conventions with the poetics of horror.
