By the Grace of God Mr. Jones

The great talent of contemporary cinema Xavier Dolan ("already" 30 years old) returns with a melancholy lovestory that debuted at Cannes. The eponymous characters have been friends since childhood. Matt has a serious job and a serious relationship, while Max (played by the director himself) decides to depart and start all over again, leaving behind a toxic relationship with his mother. The life of the boys is transformed by a kiss, one arranged for the needs of a friend's school film, as feelings hidden for years suddenly come to the fore. Dolan draws a very intense picture of modern 30-year-olds - once again he proves that he has a good ear for dialogue and music, serving a soundtrack that perfectly complements his story. It's a bit of Rohmer, a bit of Linklater, but this movie is dominated by the style of Xavier Dolan - emotional and expressive, but at the same time lyrical and moody. This is a moving film about the kind of simple, and really complicated, human choices that ruthlessly rule our lives.
