Lazy days in the north of Chile, where several families are trying to create a new world for themselves after the fall of the Pinochet dictatorship. The attention of both young and old is drawn to a teenager named Sofia, who smokes too much and listens to Sinead O'Connor. Lucas, who is the same age, falls in love with her, but Sofia, who misses her mother, has her eye on the older Ignacio. At the foot of the Andes, the children bathe in streams and look for a dog that has run away, while the adults start preparations for a New Year's party. What will it bring the protagonists building their utopia? Chilean director Dominga Sotomayor, the winner of New Horizons six years ago for Thursday Till Sunday, based the screenplay for her latest film on memories of her childhood, when fire consumed the ecological commune of Peñalolén, where she lived with her family. She won a best director award at the festival in Locarno forToo Late to Die Young, over which hovers the magical aura of summertime frolicking and first-time experiences.
