The Goose Unsettling

Fairytale folklore in a colony of religious fundamentalists in Chile. Nightmares, people turned into objects, talking animals. Wildness of heart and unchecked emotions often lead to hell. This stop-motion animation by two Chilean artists is a record of an initiation journey by a young woman into the unknown: into the murk of the forest, into a terrifying home, into herself. Told by the leader of the colony, Dignidad, the story is a warning to other runaways. After escaping from the sect, Maria ends up at a house in the forest inhabited by pigs. Like in a dream, her entire surroundings, including every object, reacts to her emotions. Everything is in motion. The house and its inhabitants are constantly changing: is it Maria's dreams or is this how this animated house reveals its will? Why do the characters appear sometimes as puppets and other times as animated drawings on the walls? These are changing points of view or perhaps the disintegration of the girl's personality, an image of a decaying inner world in which religion, sex and death clash. What could possibly happen to disobedient girls in an abandoned house?
