24 Frames Anna's War

The dramatic message that Behnaz Jafari receives from a young girl from a Turkish province of Iran sends the well-known actress and Jafar Panahi to the northeast of the country. They want to learn the truth about a teenage girl who was about to commit suicide after her family forbade her to study at an acting school. Panahi's journey isn't just the inspiration for a moving story about the fate of three generations of women with theatrical aspirations for whom the political and social reality in Iran dictated a completely different course. It's also a pretext for a confrontation between the director's idea of the role artists play in society and how ordinary people perceive film art. Panahi looks and listens, helps and reassures when he can, enjoys and reciprocates respect, but effecting the changes in Iran that he desires will require a much longer road than the one from Tehran to the Turkish-speaking periphery.
