A British take on the apocalypse adapted from the novel of the same name by comic book writer M.R. Carey. In addition, the film was made in parallel as the book was being written. In the wake of a global catastrophe, the future world is populated by creatures with a lust for human flesh. For those who managed to survive, the only hope is militarization of daily life and extensive research into human hybrids capable of surviving in infected areas. One promising subject is a girl named Melanie, who is confronted, however, with the existential question of whether she truly belongs to the particular species imposed upon her. The Girl with All the Gifts draws on the British hit from years ago, 28 Days Later, the acclaimed PlayStation game The Last of Us, and Richard Matheson's cult novel IAm Legend, knowingly accepting its status as a pop-culture amalgam. However, Colm McCarthy gracefully avoids the conventional traps that are foisted upon him.

Colm McCarthy is a Scottish director who, up to this point, has mainly been associated with television, having directed individual episodes of popular series such as Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, and, more recently, Krypton. Self-taught, he dropped out of film school and, instead of going to lectures, spent his time in front of the screen, absorbing films. In time, he and his friends started making their own scenes from videos borrowed from the library. He claims he learned his profession from books.
