The director interviews a writer, the sole survivor of the 1976 student massacre at Thammasat University. A hotel worker frequently changes jobs and homes. A pop-culture star, actor and writer, takes part in new projects. Suwichakornpong composes a poetic mosaic using fragments of several characters' daily lives. Real life scenes constantly transform into a film set. This is only the second full-length feature from the director of Mundane Story (awarded the New Horizons Grand Prix in 2010), but her style is nonetheless remarkably expressive, forged through the production of numerous short films that often combine into cinematic novellas. Suwichakornpong is, alongside Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Adityi Assarat, and Pen-eka Ratanaruang, one of the most interesting personas of Thai cinema. She combines opposites in an interesting manner, e.g. reality with fiction, the past with contemporaneity, politics with unbounded imagination, and subtlety with brutality. She tells the story of modern Thailand through impressions, snippets, rustles, stains of light and fragments of memories.
