Double Lover

François Ozon
L'amant double
France, Belgium 2017 / 107’
A Ghost Story Happy End

An erotic thriller from the director of 8 Women and Swimming Pool. This time, the woman is one and the men are two. Chloé (Marine Vacth) falls in love with her therapist (Jérémie Renier), who breaks professional ethics rules and gets in a relationship with a patient. This transgression opens the door to breaking of further taboos; secrets slither, fantasies simmer and repressed desires come to the fore when the other man appears. Ozon masterly seduces, arouses the imagination and provokes. He plays an addictive erotic game with the audience - he knows well what turns us on at the movies and what gets us going. Double Lover exudes the buoyancy of the director's best films and, even though it is a tale spun around adventures of body it loses not a bit of soul. We look into the soul's deep reaches, face the dark side of sexuality and ask questions about the right to fully realize fantasies, the right of the body to decide for itself, and the power of erotic ties. Abandon all prudery, ye who enter!
