The Bridge of the North

Jacques Rivette
Le pont du Nord
France 1981 / 129’
Celine and Julie Go Boating Gang of Four

Marie, a former terrorist, gets out of jail and tries to find her partner. Along the way, she meets Baptiste, a mysterious, moped-riding young woman from Ailleurs-les-Oies. As they wander around Paris, they are chased by secret police who are all named Max. A dark film heralding the end of an era (the joyful adventure of the 1970s), containing references to the terrorism of the time, with brilliant performances by two outstanding actors who died prematurely not long thereafter: Pascale Ogier (Full Moonin Paris) and Pierre Clementi.
