Gods Own Country Millennials

During a crisis, there is no one you can count on more than your immediate family. A young man named Jesús (Nicolás Durán) is convinced of this after committing a brutal crime in a desperate act of youth rebellion. Although his relationship with his father had never been particularly good, he was in fact the first person he turned to for help. Fernando Guzzoni's second feature film is a mature, well-executed, and raw portrait of broken family relationships, of the chasm that divides generations in a country marked by historical and political conflict, and of growing up when there seems to be no hope. It is also a socially and geographically specific profile of a generation that, in order to be able to feel anything, need extremely strong sensations and stimuli. Whatever might be considered ordinary is not enough. Instead of offering easy answers, Jesús instead asks some important questions, though without unnecessary pathos or moralizing. The film places the title character in a Conrad-like core of darkness on the crowded streets of Santiago instead of an ancient jungle.
