Panamerican Machinery

Joaquín del Paso
Maquinaria Panamericana
Mexico, Poland 2016 / 86’

A the end of a hard work week the employees of Maquinaria Panamericana(machine repair) carry out their daily rituals and, at the same time, are glad that Friday has finally arrived. Someone is celebrating a birthday, and his face ends up in the cake. Someone else is painting her nails in fancy patterns. Some people are printing new posters with animals on them to put up on their bulletin boards, while others are simply cleaning up their work space. No one is in a hurry to go anywhere. The company, which belongs to the enigmatic Don Alejandro, has an unwritten rule: calm at any cost; a family atmosphere and zero stress. The spell is broken when the boss passes away. In the blink of an eye, it turns out the company is bankrupt and that everyone's salary was being paid out of the owner's pocket. The employees decide to take matters into their own hands and maintain the status quo. Directed by Joaquin del Paso, Maquinaria Panamericanais a comedy of the absurd about the actions taken in an emergency. The battle for the corporate family means survival at any cost regardless of the consequences.
