Deep Redhas nothing in common with Dario Argento’s classic, although we do find, as with the giallo master, an exceptional intensity of colour changing on the screen. The colourisation is not just an attractive ornamentation here, but a material and theme. The director deliberately avoids using any other sensual impressions to give priority and exclusivity back to the image on screen.
Esther Urlus uses Super 8, 16 mm and 35 mm cameras in her films and artistic installations. She is interested in the material from which the cinematic picture arises. She is one of the founders of WORM.filmwerkplaats.
