Pan Tadeusz

Ryszard Ordyński
Poland 1928 / 124’
film with live music

This is the first film version of Adam Mickiewicz’s Polish national epic and one of the largest productions from the 20-year interwar period. The film has received rave reviews from a number of individuals from the world of culture. We will have an opportunity to see on screen some of the leading movie stars of the era. The filmmakers were also careful to make the film realistic: outdoor scenes were shot at the Czombrów estate near Świteź, where Mickiewicz was a frequent guest in his youth; a team of consultants worked on the sets, costumes and props; and the Marshal Józef Piłsudski 1st Light Cavalry Regiment and the 4th Zaniemeński Cavalry Regiment took part in the battle scenes. As part of the National Film Archive NITROFILM project, the film was recently digitally remastered, restored, and digitized in high definition (using 4K technology). There will also be a musical accompaniment during the screening on Wrocław’s Market Square, an orchestra conducted by Tadeusz Woźniak, composer, singer, and guitarist, as well as the author of the hit Zegarmistrz światła (Watchmaker of the Light), who, along with Tomasz Szymuś, Tomasz Filipczak, and Piotr Woźniak, made the music to accompany the film especially for this event.
