Only one accusation can be directed at this full-length debut of Jan Komasa, namely it was not created a few years ago. The film is an ideal diagnosis of the first decade of the 21st century, which faced problems connected with virtual reality and a gradual departure from real human relations in favour of virtual ones.
Dominik has everything – this is the word used by capitalistic society to define home, where shelves are full of splendour and extremely rich parents are rarely there. Komasa notices that such a definition is used by the mother and father (a perfect pair of actors: Kulesza and Pieczyński when their son changes the path they planned for him: passing the school-leaving exam, finding a girlfriend and continuing his father’s career. Dominik didn’t see himself in this reality. Money doesn’t make him happy and he is not sure of his own sexual orientation. This uncertainty is laughed at and scorned even at his exclusive school. The boy hides from this on the Internet, where he meets mysterious Sylwia. She is the one who introduces him to the world of the Room which will turn out to be only seemingly safer than the cruel reality.
