My, my, my ..., wrote, in 2017, the author of the Art(s) of Slow Cinema blog, Dr. Nadin Mai, “another strong representative of arthouse this year, a bit too good to write about. Because, to be honest, there are films that can’t be described in words. This is one of them.” Divided into chapters of varying styles, the black-and-white, experimental essay by Berliner Sebastian Mez reports on a journey to the Middle East and its many border crossings. “This is the most beautiful landscape I've ever seen in my life,” says the director, “and, at the same time, the most dominated by all kinds of barriers—it's almost surreal.”  We see it through entangled wires and from inside a tank; along a wall; from behind our backs; in wide-angle, grainy panoramas; and in high-contrast close-ups. Slowly—there are moments when the director shows us images from near a border crossing. How does conflict shape space? How does it affect relationships between people? Mez gives this question an ambiguous, visually dense, almost wordless answer.
