David is a single father who devotes his life to frantic search for his teenage daughter when she stops responding to his text messages and does not answer his phone-calls. 'Searching…' is the phrase we see on her laptop screen repeatedly when he breaks into her computer and social media and starts his private investigation. Clearly he hardly knew his beloved daughter, her friends and lifestyle. As it is the case in all great crime stories the officials and cops turn out to be more of a hindrance and nuisance than help. What really assists his search is: Facebook, YouTube, surveillance cameras, GPS and other technologies and devices, even though the traces they offer are sometimes misleading as well. This first feature by Aneesh Chaganty, awarded at Sundance, is a true neo noir thriller as much as a reflection on social relationships in the #metoo era as well as a statement about the ubiquity of technology around us. In this formally daring movie everything we see is mediated through a screen: of a phone, computer, tv or a camera.
