Father and Son on a Journey

Father Marcel, and his son Paweł are directors travelling to Paris. There, in a journey to find their roots, they discover where the ashes of Marcel’s mother and Paweł’s grandmother were scattered. On the way, father and son turn their cameras on each other and ask questions. Who are you? Who am I? How do you feel about me? How do I feel about myself? Marcel and Paweł look into the lens as if it were a mirror with anti-aging/aging properties. Father and Son on a Journey, producedon the basis of Father and Son, is a record of emotional turmoil between well-known directors Marcel and Paweł Łoziński. It is a subjective record, because the film ultimately produced by Marcel supplemented and rebutted Father and Son produced by Paweł. Both films are subtle treatises on documentary cinema and the ways it creates specific meanings. However, Father and Son on a Journey is, above all, a story about family: the strengths and weaknesses passed down from generation to generation, a father’s love, which changes over time into narcissism, the mistakes made in trying to avoid the mistakes of one’s own parents. It is a universal film precisely because it is rooted in a personal and real-life story.
