She's part girl next door and part femme fatale. Sometimes she's treated instrumentally, but at other times with respect or even fear. The titular character of the film by Izabela Zubrycka, You River, plays a role that is as important as it is complicated in the life of rural communities. In her impressionist documentary, the director analyzes this complex relationship, while also exceeding the perspective of a distant researcher of folklore. Thus, her film begins to resemble a love letter addressed to the river, kept in the rhythm of a folk song.
Born in 1998, Izabela Zubrycka is a student of Film and Television Directing at the Łódź Film School, and a graduate of Journalism and Photography at the University of Warsaw and the Wajda School. Her previous film, Handful of Dirt, has been screened at many festivals, including the most recent New Horizons.
