Longing

In his professional life, Andreas is a locksmith who opens doors, but in his private life he is closing them more and more. It all starts when he goes away with the other volunteer firefighters for a weekend. He leaves his loving wife and child at their country house near Berlin. Strongly convinced that he needs freedom, he hits the dance floor, which makes his head spin. In the morning, he wakes up next to a strange woman. Then he starts drifting back and forth between his two passions. Longing is a modern Shakespearean tragedy, Romeo and Juliet in a rural setting. The director uses amateur actors to portray the provinces in a masterful way. With a feeling for rhythm, she can stir up a hornet's nest like few others, causing strong reactions in the characters themselves. Far from describing the social dilemmas of the upper class, she sticks to the values of ordinary workers.
