Metamorphosis

Martha Colburn
Metamorfoza
Netherlands 2013 / 7’
animation

The main theme of Metamorfoza is Shostakovich’s 7th Symphony, which was written in 1941 and dedicated to the coming victory over the enemy. That enemy was the Nazis, but also, although this interpretation is not so obvious, Stalin himself, whose rule cast a shadow over the composer’s life. Metamorfoza was made using traditional stop-motion techniques, as well as puppets and found footage.
