The Brand New Testament

Le tout nouveau testament

The Brand New Testament is a comedy full of gags and absurd humor in the tradition ofMonty Python. While boldly playing around with religious themes, the film is much more than mere provocation. It is, rather, as Roman Gutek says, a film about a badly decorated world. We all know the story of the son of God, but we have no idea what is happening with his father or his sister, Ea. Jaco Van Dormael (Mr. Nobody) brings us the story of these two heavenly figures who have descended to Earth. They are living in Brussels and are having a bit of a spat with one another. It should come as no surprise that Ea would rebel against her father. God has become the personification of duplicity. It is not enough that he continues to come up with more and more absurd rules to complicate people's lives (for example, no matter which line you choose to stand in, those around you will always move faster), but he also glibly causes catastrophes involving various means of transportation, the impact of which later serves to provide him with entertainment while watching the news on television. This all changes when Ea hacks his computer and, known as DeathLeaks, she becomes a bit of a celebrity among mortals.
