Baby Bump

Kuba Czekaj
Poland 2015 / 90’

Mickey is at that age when everything is associated with sex. Pencils, bottles, even a cake with a hole in it. And his body is becoming an obsession. His life becomes more complicated when his penis-without knowing why-stiffens at the sight of his naked mother. And his ears add to his complexes. Mickey thinks they are huge, and so he starts saving money for plastic surgery. He does this by selling his urine. There is plenty of demand for it. His friends like to smoke a bit of this and that, and drug testing is becoming more and more frequent at school. Mickey has no problem with them. Things are somewhat worse with his imagination, however, which is getting in the way of reality, not to mention the women in his life. A female friend from school has been oddly ogling him. And things have been weird with his mother since a strange maid started visiting their house. A teenager may be trying to find his place in the world, but do not expect a classic coming-of-age story - indeed, the director turns the genre on its head, in a film that focuses on the maturing human body for the first time in Polish cinema.
