The wait is over! Today, the festival is home to the Polish premiere of one of this year’s must-see documentaries, the Berlinale audience award-winning Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present, a portrait of the avant-garde artist and icon of performance and body art who has been revolutionizing contemporary art for the past 40 years. Born in Yugoslavia but working in the United Stated, Abramović subjects her own body to extreme experiments while leading audiences into unsettling emotional states. The film examines the radical artist’s life and work through the prism of an exceptional performance at the New York Museum of Modern Art in spring 2010, during which, for three months, she sat motionless for hours daily on a simple chair in an empty room. Visitors were invited to sit opposite her – in their testimonials, many spoke of emotional and physical challenges, emotional catharsis, silent therapy, and spontaneous relationships with the artist.
The film will screen at Helios 7, on 20, 21, 27 and 28 July. All screenings begin at 19:15.
