New Horizons Association in cooperation with the Helios cinema chain and support from the City of Wroclaw will convert the one of the central multiplexes in Wrocław into an art house cinema and film education centre.
From 1 Sep 2012, the 9-screen cinema on 19-20 Kazimierza Wielkiego Str. will operate under the name Helios New Horizons.
Until now, the Helios multiplex has been the main venue of T-Mobile New Horizons IFF and the American Film Festival. Helios Nowe Horyzonty will be run by New Horizons Association team led by Roman Gutek, the festival director of T-Mobile New Horizons IFF.
Roman Gutek emphasized that big Hollywood productions will not be shown at Helios Nowe Horyzonty. Instead, the cinema will concentrate on showing independent films, daring author's projects, as well as quality mainstream cinema. There will be no place for popcorn stands. They will be replaced by cafes and bookshops. Furthermore, an effort will be made to develop education projects for children in all ages, as well as more projects addressed to senior audience.
Helios Nowe Horyzonty starts while Wrocław is being transformed into the European Culture Capital in 2016 and various important projects are born. Rafał Dutkiewicz - Mayor of the City of Wroclaw - promised that New Horizons Association will have the city's special support in organising and implementing educational strategies, believing it will have major impact on widening citizens' cultural awareness.
