Sweat, dir. Magnus von Horn
American Film Festival 2020: from Sundance, through Berlin, to Wroclaw The 20th New Horizons IFF - Third Eye: Sleeping Beauty and the Revolution

The 20th New Horizons International Film Festival will open with the long-awaited film Kill It and Leave This Town by Mariusz Wilczyński. Opening day will also feature the Polish premiere of the excellent film Sweat by Magnus von Horn, which was included in the official selection at Cannes.

Adoration by thousands of Instagram followers, energetic workouts in a crowd of excited fans, queries from journalists, and expensive gifts from sponsors is all the stuff of daily life of fitness icon Sylwia Zając in the film Sweat. However, all this happens only online and shen she leaves the role of an internet celebrity, Sylwia is completely alone. That's when she grabs the phone again and turns on the camera to share how she feels with her loved ones, that is, her fans.

Sylwia’s bold share triggers a series of dramatic events and completely upends the trainer's life in just three days, evoking a wave of social media reactions, testing family relationships and forcing her to face the dark side of fame. This open confrontation with reality, from which the smartphone screen does not protect, catalyzes Sylwia's transformation, which may culminate in true intimacy. Sweat, directed by Magnus von Horn, perfectly combines an intimate drama with the thriller convention to tell the story of longing for love in a world where crowds love you.

The film by von Horn, winner of the Polityka's Passport and director of the famous film Intruder, was the only Polish movie to be officially selected at the last Cannes festival. The feature debut by actress Magdalena Koleśnik, who boldly plays Sylwia, was hailed as "wonderful" by the foreign press. Energetic as a power shake, the rising star has co-stars such as Aleksandra Konieczna, Zbigniew Zamachowski and another talented actor of the young generation, Julian Świeżewski. Sweat is another film that conquers the world and proves that Polish cinema is in as great condition today as Sylwia Zając, and it deservedly has crowds of fans and followers.
