This first feature written and directed by Gregor Jordan is a fiendishly well-structured thriller with rich comedy overtones. It also introduced two talented new actors, Heath Ledger and Rose Byrne, who have since enjoyed international careers. Ledger plays Jimmy, an ambitious young misfit who goes to work for Pando, a local gang boss. But when Jimmy loses $10,000 entrusted to him by Pando, and also the new car owned by Pando's deputy, Acko he's in big trouble. Byrne plays Alex, a girl from the country just arrived in Sydney who becomes involved with this endangered young man. Blanding slapstick (there's a grimly funny attempt at a bank robbery), violence and suspense, Two Hands is filled with unexpected touches and skilful performances.
