Cars from Ukraine is probably the most touching story about the bond between man and machine since Titane. Iconoclastic? Not necessarily. Combining documentary and animation, the film tells the story of three families who, with the support of well-worn cars, managed to escape to Poland from invaded Ukraine. Despite the painful subject matter, the film maintains a captivating lightness. The characters, who recall their journeys with a mixture of disbelief and relief, give hope that in extreme situations, salvation may come from the least expected places.
