A pale, unmoving face that looks as if it were made of wax. Empty eyes that only occasionally show a flicker of human emotion. Slow, aged movements and an unwillingness to speak more than a few words at a time. The diagnosis is all too obvious: Mrs. J. is suffering from depression. The only this 50-year-old woman dreams about is to finding her final rest in a grave next to her husband, who died a year earlier. Before putting the barrel of a gun in her mouth, however, she has a few little things to take care of. Day after day, she has a hard time leaving her cluttered apartment and facing an inhospitable reality. This may all sound unbearably sad, but it looks somewhat different: lighter, funnier, more bearable. Requiem for Mrs. J. is a cold tragicomedy, in which mundane and unpleasant situations turn imperceptibly into absurd sketches.
