The Beautiful Troublemaker
A young painter named Nicolas dreams of meeting the famous Édouard Frenhofer. With the help of an art dealer, he and his girlfriend, Marianne, are taken to Frenhofer's house. The painter takes them to his studio, where he tells them about The Beautiful Troublemaker, a painting of his wife, Liz, that he abandoned 10 years earlier. They all agree that Marianne will be the new Beautiful Troublemaker. A loose adaptation of Balzac's novel The Unknown Masterpiece, focusing on the part that describes the relationship between the painter and his model. Rivette continues with his thoughts on the creative process and tensions between art and life.

Jacques Rivette
(1928 - 2016) Despite being a key member of the Nouvelle Vague, Jacques Rivette has languished in the shadows of his more renowned colleagues: Godard, Rohmer, Chabrol and Truffaut. Rivette's work is certainly demanding, but along with Godard, Rivette turns out to have been the most playful and innovative of a group who literally changed the face of filmmaking. Jacques Rivette was born in Rouen, France. In the fifties, he begin writing for the "Cahiers du Cinéma", which teamed him with Nouvelle Vague. In 1960 he directed his first feature film with Paris nous appartient (60). His filmography includes La Religieuse, L'Amour fou, Duelle, La Bande des quatre and La Belle Noiseuse.
