Wacław Zimpel is a classically trained clarinetist, musical improviser and composer living in Warsaw. The main source of his inspiration can be found in the sacred and ritual music of different cultures. His compositions reference the works of early composers so as to create contemporary polemics or commentaries on musical traditions. He is the leader of the Wacław Zimpel Quartet, as well as the groups Hera and Undivided, a member of the Resonance orchestra founded by Ken Vandermark and has collaborated with Joe McPhee, Mikołaj Trzaska and Steve Swell, among others. Zimpel is a winner of the Artistic Award of the City of Poznań.
