Border

Girl

A long, long time ago, a very, very ugly customs officer worked at a ferry terminal. In her spare time, Tina (Eva Melander) would walk barefoot in the woods and read the crime novels by Lisa Marklund until she fell asleep. She was unlucky in love, and her father suffered from amnesia, which was widespread in certain generations. But she was very much appreciated at work since she could detect alcohol (giving the exact number of bottles before the smuggler's bag was opened) and even evil intentions being smuggled into the country. One day, however, a mysterious man (Eero Milonoff) appeared before her whose intentions she couldn't detect. It was, however, undoubtedly a guy with a propensity for trolling. The winner of the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes is based on a book by John Ajvide Lindqvist. One of the screenwriters is Isabella Eklöf, whose directorial debut, Holiday, took part in the competition at New Horizons. Border is a film that successfully draws on various genres, unexpectedly seasoning realistic scenes with magic brutality with black humor. Abbasi's tale combines the best traditions of a sensitive, socially engaged Scandinavian crime story with the dark beauty of Nordic fairy tales and the boldness of an erotic thriller, all to build a complex picture of the modern world, with its obsession for impervious borders.
