Super Duper Alice Cooper

Reginald Harkema, Scot McFadyen, Sam Dunn
Canada 2014 / 86’

"Inside every one of us, there are two natures that are at war." These are the first words of this documentary about Vincent Furnier, the quiet son of a pastor who, for many years, had his own personal Mr. Hyde. In the form of the demonic Alice Cooper, this inconspicuous boy quickly became one of the most scandalous figures in rock history. The story begins in the 1960s, when Vincent becomes the front man for a small band of freaks, and then moves on to the 1970s, the period of his great fame and slow decline, before finishing up in the 1980s, during his triumphant return to the music world in the guise of glam rock. The filmmakers gathered a lot of archival footage and added animated inserts, commentary by the artist himself and by those close to him, as well as his wife, thus creating a fascinating portrait of a struggle between Vincent and Alice that was being waged for the soul of a talented boy whose life was entirely suffused with uncompromising rock 'n' roll.
