Drift I Am Another You

Winner of the Teddy Award at this year's Berlinale, Hard Paint joins a bevy of LGBT films from Brazil. By day, Pedro is a withdrawn and antisocial young man who has trouble with the law, his family and often even to force himself to get out of the house and onto the streets of Brazil's Porto Alegre. At night, however, he becomes NeonBoy, a licentious star of webcams, where he fulfils the erotic desires of the anonymous guys watching him. He specializes in using sparkling, phosphorescent sex toys. This allows him to bolster his self-confidence and, above all, to pay the rent. Things get complicated when Pedro's sister finds out that someone has started imitating him. Forced to deal with the matter, he meets the imposter, a dancer named Leo. They decide to perform together, at least for a time. Marcio Reolon and Filipe Matzembacher's film is an honest portrayal of Brazil's gay community, showing its beauty and vitality, as well as the self-interest and loneliness of its members. Unpolished and prudery-free.
