At the festival in Gijón, 9 Fuge shared the main prize with Daria Woszek's Marygoround; the two films are connected by a poetic aura and focus on female characters. However, Fona Cortizo’s work is subordinated to the music of the Orquesta Fugaz de Improvisación Industrial ensemble. First, nine compositions were created, inspired by passages from the Chinese Book of Changes and the work of the Galician artist Alfonso Castelao, while the finished soundtrack was the basis of the script and partially improvised dialogues. It also plays a diegetic role in the film: the presence of the team in the frame becomes an integral part of the story. I wanted to make the film a little backwards, start the house on the roof, record the music and build the film on it, explains Cortizo. The dreamlike plot focuses on the power in the meaning of words and the importance of memory in the life of the individual and the community - it is no coincidence that the photos were taken primarily on an island where, during the Franco dictatorship, there was a prison for republican opposition figures.
