Technicolor, showgirls, and rowdy cowboys dancing to old-school hits: this is Anna Biller's ironic pastiche of a Hollywood Western from the 1940s. Lucy (played by Biller herself) is a young woman living in the wild West. Unfortunately, an incubus (a treacherous demon that has sex with unconscious women) visits her in a dream every single night. Being the decent young lady that she is, Lucy is none too pleased with these nocturnal visits and hires a local singer to help exorcise the demon, but the malicious incubus remains hot on her heels. A Western that turns into a horror which then morphs into a musical.
She is a visual artist and filmmaker living in Los Angeles. In her films, she deconstructs the models of femininity developed by genre cinema in Hollywood and Europe, while also playing with the Italian giallo or soft porn from the 1960. She designs her own sets and buys the vintage costumes for her retro-stylized movies. Viva and The Love Witch are her only two full-length feature films.
