Filipka, a person of fluid gender identity, is preparing for their first stage performance. However, they are more concerned about their conservative parents' opinion than the reaction of a crowd of strangers. It sounds like the idea for another episode in the ongoing saga of the Polish-Polish war, right? Not for Dawid Nickel, who, just like in Love Tasting, proves that he can tell stories about difficult life choices without relying on stereotypes. This time, Filipka herself helps the director achieve the goal, demonstrating not only sincerity and courage in front of the camera but also a self-ironic sense of humor.
Dawid Nickel was born in 1988 in Kędzierzyn-Koźle. He studied at the Krzysztof Kieślowski Film School at the University of Silesia in Katowice and at the Wajda School. Nickel has collaborated with Małgorzata Szumowska (Body and Mug) and Łukasz Ronduda (All Our Fears). His films feature characters whose image in Poland is perceived through the prism of stereotypes related to their sexual orientation or marginalized social position.
