Festival Spotlight - Polish Days

24/07/13
We really need you tonight. „Pięć diabłów” od dziś w kinach!

Polish Days returns for a second edition. A major platform for new Polish films and projects in the works, as well as a chance for the international film industry to catch up with what has been happening within Polish cinema over the last year, it is now a key date in the film calendar.

As with last year's event, Polish Days is divided into three sections. The first day is comprised of a meet-and-greet, followed by sessions on pitching, before the opening party for all participants. The next two days are then divided between screenings of completed films and works-in-progress, one-on-one meetings, pitching sessions and a presentation on the final day by Film Commission Poland.

Six completed features will screen over two days. Tomasz Wasilewski's Floating Skyscrapers is the only Polish feature appearing in the International Competition. Warsaw Stories is a portmanteau film featuring contributions by Maciej Cuske, Kacper Lisowski, Nehad Mikovic, Mateusz Rakowicz and Tymon Wyciszkiewicz. The Caged Swallow is the directorial debut of Bartosz Warwas. The Man Who Made Angels Fly, the follow-up to Wiktoria Szymańska's acclaimed documentary Themerson and Themerson, is a portrait of theatre director and puppeteer Michael Meshke. The life of the famous female Roma poet is the subject of Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze's Papusza. And finally, Bartosz Dombrowski's Six Degrees attempts to find connections between two people living in opposite parts of the world.

There are nine works in progress scheduled to screen on the second day. With the exception of Łukasz Ronduda and Maciej Sobieszczański's The Performer, a portrait of Oskar Dawicki, they are all features. They include projects by Marcin Koszałka (Red Spider, the acclaimed documentary filmmaker's feature debut), Wojciech Smarzowski (The Mighty Angel), Aleksandra Gowin and Ireneusz Grzyb (Little Crushes), Waldemar Krzystek (Photographer), Władysław Pasikowski (Jack Strong), Krzysztof Skonieczny (Hardkor Disko), Grzegorz Jaroszuk (Kebab and Horoscope) and the latest film by Nothing Personal and Code Blue director Urszula Antoniak (Nude Area. Love in 15 Fragments).

Alongside these screenings, there are twelve pitches by new and established filmmakers. And as with the other sessions over taking place over the course of two days, it allows Polish Days to positioned itself as the major platform for promoting domestic cinema internationally.
